Congrats to Elaine Murphy Advanced Open TRI-AIRC ODE Champion 2010

Dalysgrove were well represented at the National ODE Championships on Sunday 12 Sept at Annaharvey. Kevin, Lorraine, John, Dermot, Rose, Caroline and Elaine all competed and contributed to the organising of the event as did Tony and Aoife. Some very good dressage performances with the odd pole on the ground in the SJ phase and most of the cross country courses were completed with just the odd run out. However, on the day it was Elaine that shone through. With clears in XC and SJ and the top AO dressage score of 32.5 she was untouchable.

Congratulations to Team Dalysgrove for their performance at the 2010 National Dressage Championships

Donna Murray took first place in the Primary and Elaine Murphy came third in the Advanced Open. Good performances from Leonie Nolan and Lorraine Costello added to the teams success coming in at a creditable fifth place with less than two points separating them from the top spot. The teams hard work and effort are well rewarded, however the honours on the day go to the ever humble, ever smiling Donna - our 2010 AIRC National Dressage Champion.

Dalysgrove Riding club hosted the western regional qualifier for the TRI national riding club ODE in Dalysgrove Ahascragh on Sunday 15th August with the kind permission of Mr. Liam Naughten whose outstandingly beautiful estate shone in the warm sunshine to welcome the130 competitors from across the country, with rolling fields and sublime views of the river Suck. The event sponsored by TRI Equestrian began with four dressage arenas, where the first phase of the competition judged by Lady Dorta fFrench, Helen Nolan, Elaine Murphy and Dermot Breslin was efficiently ran off. Next competitors went to one of the two showjumping arenas designed by Damien Carey and finally on to tackle the interesting and undulating X-country designed by Timmy Clogher and built by club members led by club chairman John Miland.

Event secretaries Mary Tuohy, Tony Whyte and Lorraine Costello put in an outstanding effort to organise and run the competition on the day, they were ably assisted by volunteers from clubs all over the west and also by East Galway Pony Club. Dalysgrove Riding Club’s Elaine Murphy in between judging intermediate dressage took top spot in the Advanced Open competition on the handsome bay Eurisco. Finishing on just time penalties to add to her dressage score. There were only two finishers in the Open class, the strong x-country accounting for the rest, the winner was Joanne Louge on Colourful Kiwi for Hollybrook RC and second was Rodney O Donnell for Hillcrest RC on Hillcrest Huxley.

The x-country proved decisive all day especially in the advanced intermediate where dressage leader Lorraine Costello on Buzz Light Year for the Dalysgrove was unlucky to have a fault at the water. This left the way clear for Cathriona Kennedy on Dinney for Three Counties RC to win on her dressage score, second was Damien McCormack on King of Heights for Tara Hill RC and Simon Day and Camber Gambler for Mullingar was third.

Kevin Clogher and Moylougha Bird for Dalysgrove RC made it a day to remember by winning the first divide of the intermediate class. Kevin was architect of the Clogher Corner fence 13 on the x-country. The showjumping proved to be very influential with few clears recorded at this grade, and the long and winding x-country course resulted in many getting time faults. Second in this section was Aoife McGuire who was one of the few who finished on her dressage score on Mane Attraction for Mo Chara RC and Maire Murray for Mosstown RC riding Merry Men was third.

Primary teacher Bevin Grant and Twiggy for Waterford RC made the long journey a worthwhile one by scoring their first ODE win together in the second divide of the intermediate, second was Jenny Jakeman on Two Tone Ted for Springmount RC, and Harry Lalor on Kanga for Dunamase RC took third.

The largest class of the day with thirty-nine entries was the advance primary, it was won by Lucy Daly on Sallybank Calypso for Borus RC, second was Alana Macey-Hogan on One Step Ahead for Croughan Hill RC, with Ruth Ivory on Diamond Chancer for Brookelodge RC third.

In all it was a wonderful day, as many compliments were received by the organisers for the fantastic x-country course. We all wish the qualifiers the best of luck in the TRI national finals.

For all, “please remember be ye winners or be ye not, you had fun ‘cos someone worked hard in the blazing sun, so please please be nice to volunteers!

Congrats to team Dalysgrove for winning the Western Region Dressage Qualifier again. The team consisted of Donna Murray, Leonie Nolan, Lorraine Costelloe and Elaine Murphy. Congrats also go to their mascot, Kevin Clogher for taking second place in the Power and Speed class.

Team Dalysgrove elated after their win to qualify for the National dressage Championships on 22 August 2010

Dalysgrove members retrieving a 20 Euro note from a slatted pit. One of them fiercely defending their treasure with a pitch-fork. Some say "where there's muck there's money". Others wonder "is there anything that Dalysgrove won't do to raise money to fund their shows".

Some say that a successful show makes money. The success that we claim in  Dalysgrove shows is reflected in the contribution to encouraging riding as a sport and recreation and to making a humble contribution to improving and maintaining the standard of horse riding and horse mastership in Ireland - (paraphrased from the AIRC Mission Statement). The cost of our shows is covered by personal expense, fundraising events and harrying the local business community for sponsorship. If money was to be made others would fill the gap that Dalysgrove are trying to cover and turn them into private enterprise events.

Saoirse Saddlery Dressage League 2010

A bright and balmy spring day in Ballygar was the setting for the final of the second annual Saoirse Saddlery dressage league. The competitors were judged by Lady Dortha fFrench in the morning and AIRC chairman Tony Ennis in the afternoon. Dalysgrove RC members made good use of their day jobs to ensure the arena looked lovely, compliments of Milands Garden Centre. Another member Caroline Rushe of Horsey Horsey supplied the nicest rosettes for the league- with that bit of bling.

For the second year in a row both Donna Murray riding the pretty bay Troy for Dalysgrove RC at primary, and Marjorie Hardiman riding the well established Creganna Clover for Tonabrockey RC at intermediate won out the league at their grades. Marjorie was also joint first in the intermediate and above dressage to music on the day, with Sylvia Braumberger riding Lissangle Desert Light for Ballinasloe RC. Eileen Murphy on Ballyshea Boy for Tynagh RC was runner up in the intermediate league.

Niamh Macken riding the consistent Captain Smirnoff for Ballinasloe RC continued her run of success to win both the advanced primary league and the primary/advanced primary dressage to music league. On the day show secretary Leonie Nolan on connemara Grange Fergal Sparrow for Dalysgrove RC won the dressage to music primary/advanced primary class. Sean O Neill on Barracuda for Dalysgrove was runner-up in the advanced primary league.

Grainne Kelly on the coloured Salsa Bandito for Springmount RC won the league at advanced intermediate, despite having to give best to Margaret Hynes on Cottage Fire for Tynagh RC on the day. In the open/advanced open class Emma-Jane Dawson-Stanley on the striking bay with the big paces Michelle for Bridge RC from eventer Sylvia Braumberger on Lissangle Desert Light for Ballinasloe RC. Sylvia also won the intermediate and above dressage to music league, from Katherina Synnott on Gurraun Baracka for Castle Carraig RC.

The men of Dalysgrove know the value of dressage, three of them secured league places; John Miland on Demense Dancer was third in the primary league; Sean O Neill on Barracuda was runner-up in the advanced primary league and Kevin Clogher on Moylougha Bird was fourth in the intermediate. Mark Field of Tonabrockey RC was third in the advanced intermediate league. There has yet to be a male competitor in the dressage to music, but with a bit of encouragement, perhaps next year!

Best turned out during the league were, Serena Finnerty, Katherina Synnott and Annette Donoghue from Castle Carraig RC and Donna Murray from Dalysgrove RC. The award for the person who travelled the furthest to the league goes to Orla O Reilly from Letterkenny RC, who borrowed the lovely grey Obvious Flair from Ashling Kelly of Ballinasloe RC. Many thanks go to all the competitors, judges, scribes and helpers, especially those from other clubs who helped out, and for all their good wishes. See you all next year.
